First Nations 2025 Wall Calendar
“Your culture is not what your hands touch or make – it’s what moves your hands.” – Tyson Yunkaporta (Sand Talk: How Indigenous Thinking Can Save the World, 2019)
Australia’s First Nations people have a cultural lineage dating back at least 40,000 years prior to Colonisation. The term ‘First Nations’ refers to the fact that there are many different and distinct Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups, each with their own culture, language, beliefs and practices yet all sharing an overarching spiritual connection to the land.
Art predates written language as an important method of sharing cultural knowledge. For contemporary Indigenous artists their art is a synthesis of their traditional culture with modern media.
